It was lovely but very different. We had a 19th-century house with a nice fireplace and a small backyard. Here in Singapore, we don't have a fireplace, but there is something more interesting. Let me show you our apartment and condo. Also, I'll give you an estimate of how much it is to rent and to buy a property in Singapore. Singapore is an island city-state in Southeast Asia. 5.7 million people are living here. Its population is very multinational. There are four official languages: English, Malay, Chinese, and Tamil. Most commonly used, though, is English. Singapore has a highly developed market economy with 95.6 thousand dollars GDP per capita, which is the 2nd highest globally. The average salary in Singapore is 4.3 thousand dollars. Most Singaporeans live in so-called HDB flats, which are government-built and subsidized housing. Condominiums or simply condos is the 2nd most popular housing option in Singapore. This condo is called The Interlace. It's worldwide known for its special design. Unlike most typical tower-type buildings, this condo consists of blocks irregularly stacked upon each other. Singaporeans refer to it as "oooh! lego condo lah!". This complex sits on 8 hectares or almost 1 million square feet of land. It has 1,040 units, split over 31, 6-storey blocks. Designed by a German architect Ole Scheeren, The Interlace project was finished in 2013, and 2 years later, it was awarded the World Building of the Year. There are plenty of facilities on the site - 5 swimming pools, gym, 3 tennis courts, a multi-purpose court for football and basketball, BBQ pits, reading room, billiards, 800-meter jogging track, cinema, karaoke, 2 grocery stores, hairdresser, laundry and even your own GP! So it really feels like a mini country by itself! And actually, we were quite happy to stack here during the lockdown last year. We are renting this apartment. The total size is 340 sq meters which are 3650 sq feet. And we pay 7.5 thousand Singapore dollars per month, which is 5.6 thousand USD. Plus around 500 Singapore dollars (or 370 American dollars) for electricity and water bills. But to buy this place, I will need around 4.5 million Singapore dollars, which is 3.3 American dollars. But for most foreigners, there is an additional stamp duty tax of 25% on top. It's insane, but this makes the final price around 5.6 million Singapore dollars or 4.2 million American dollars. Yeh... I guess I need to make more Youtube videos to afford to buy this place. 😂 .... Hey! I'm Max.
