Job interviews have become this strange performance art? You need to impress strangers without bragging, show you are a team player who can meet deadlines by yourself, and demonstrate charisma without being phoney or fake. I started applying for jobs right after my PhD, but after dozens of dead-end applications with 0 call backs, something was obviously wrong. Turns out it’s not just me? Scientists in general tend to struggle in job interviews. Let’s talk through 5 reasons why this is the case and the career development lessons we can learn.
